He was born February 2, 1930 at Ralph Station in Ohio County, KY to the late Alfred Taylor Ralph and Dimple Greer Ralph. He retired after 30 years as an agent for Commonwealth Life Insurance Company and was past president of the Owensboro Life Underwriters Association. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He loved Kentucky, was very proud of this state and had visited every county seat. He was appointed a Kentucky Colonel by three different governors. He taught English and coached basketball at Fordsville, KY and taught at Rockport, KY. He was a life member, past president and lieutenant governor of the Optimist Club. He served multiple terms as club officer for the Noon Optimist Club of Owensboro. He was a two-time lieutenant governor of the Kentucky West Virginia District of Optimist International. Rudy was known as the "Christmas Tree Guy" having worked at the Noon Optimist Christmas tree lot for many years. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kentucky Wildcats. He loved his family, especially his grandkids and great grandchild "THE BOY".
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna Catherine Nance Ralph; a daughter, Cathy Hedges (Brian) of Owensboro; a son, Michael E. Ralph (Kim) of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Chris Hedges (Ashley) of Owensboro, Taylor Ralph of Louisville, Jon Hedges (Alivia) of Owensboro and Beth Anne Ralph of Louisville; one great grandchild, Jeremiah Paul "J.P." Hedges; two sisters, Velva Sanders of Gary, IN and Donna Hawn (Dave) of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial with military honors is in Ralph Cemetery in Ohio County, KY.
Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday and after 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
