Evelyn B. Wilson, age 92, of Atlanta, Georgia and Owensboro, KY

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Evelyn B. Wilson, age 92, of Atlanta, Georgia and Owensboro, KY passed away on April 20, 2013. Evelyn Blocker Wilson was born in Mart, Texas on November 22, 1920. She was the youngest child of Maggie and Willis Blocker. She met her beloved A. R. (Ashton R. Wilson) in Waco, Texas where she was working and he was stationed at the Waco Army Airfield, prior to his deployment to India during World War II. They married on October 25, 1944. During the war years she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at a munitions plant.

After the War, Evelyn and A. R. moved to KY where he graduated from the University of KY before returning to Texas to teach school and attend graduate school at Baylor University. After A.R. joined Texas Gas Transmission Corporation in1952, the young family moved several times, settling in 1961 in Owensboro, where they lived until 2002 when they moved to Atlanta.

Evelyn was a devoted mother and wife. She and her husband of 65 years were active members of Lewis Lane Baptist Church and founding members of Apollo Heights Baptist Church, where she served as the church secretary for many years.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her beloved son, David, and husband, A.R. Wilson. She is survived by her devoted daughter Marsha Wilson Lawrence, son-in-law Robert Landy Lawrence IV (originally of Owensboro); grandson Scott P. Reed, great-grandson Ashton N. Reed, all of Atlanta; grandson and granddaughter-in-law Robert L. Lawrence V & Mathilde Lawrence of Bordeaux, France; two sisters-in-law, Ann G. Wilson, Cedar Hill, Tennessee and Elizabeth Wilson, Russellville, KY; daughter-in-law Elaine Wilson Mann, of Bowling Green, KY; three nieces Jane Harper, of Russellville, KY; Beth Stratton of Auburn, KY; Frances Stanford of Texas; and her devoted caregiver of many years Helen Head of Atlanta.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. The Reverends Jerry Carter and George Darnell will be officiating. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville, KY. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
