OWENSBORO, Ky. - James Edward 'Jimmy' Freels, 67, of Owensboro, KY passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Owensboro Health. He was born January 27, 1946 in Owensboro to the late Mary and Herbert Freels, Sr. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum and was a Marine Corp veteran, serving during the Vietnam era, and achieved the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Salvation Army Church. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed fishing, the New York Yankees, his black Chevy truck, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Freels, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nettie Freels; two daughters, Heather Brianna Dant (Todd) of Lewisport, KY and Natalie Rose Padgett (Everett) of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Nyasia Padgett, Trenton Dant, Isaiah Padgett, Tristyn Dant and Taylor Dant; a brother, Archie Freels (Phyllis) of Rockport, IN; sisters, Mary Bell (Bill) of Lansdale, PA and Elizabeth Allen (George) of Cloverport, KY and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Salvation Army, 215 Ewing Road, Owensboro, KY 42301.
