OWENSBORO, Ky. - Ruby Jeanette Day, 90, of Owensboro passed away May 7, 2013, at Hermitage Care & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. Born in Penrod, KY on September 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Athel and Della Baker Day. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert and three sisters, Martha, Margaret Dean and June Moore and a half-sister, Corrina Day.
Known as "Aunt Ruby" to all her friends and family, she enjoyed cooking, reading, current events, holidays, children in her neighborhood, and her poodle, Ned. Ruby loved having visitors, talking about the old days, politics, and listening and giving advice. She retired from Canteen Services after 45 years of employment.
Survivors include a half sister, Mary James of League City, TX; and two nieces that she helped raise, Jeanette (Kenneth) Kennedy and Rebecca (W.H.) Rightmyer, both of Owensboro. She is also survived by nieces, Brandy Liss and Kathleen James; and nephews, Brad and Travis of League City; five great-nieces, Pam Croft of Owensboro, Theresa (Tim) Oakes of Lexington, Marjie (Andy) Pippin of Owensboro, Debbie (Brian) Martin of Germantown, TN and Jenny (Justin) Simmons of Owensboro; four great-great nephews and seven great-great nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Hermitage for the loving care they gave Aunt Ruby.
Public visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. A private family service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with Chaplain Linda Haddix. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to KY Wesleyan College, 3000 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to the Charitable Fund, KY School for the Blind, 1867 Frankfort Ave., Louisville, KY 40206.
