OWENSBORO, Ky. - Shirley Vandruff, 77, of Owensboro, KY left this world on Monday, May 6, 2013, in her home after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. She was born on February 7, 1936 in Centertown, KY to the late Henry and Ruva Sheffield. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Douglas Vandruff; her brother, Wendell Sheffield; and sister JoNell Whitten. Shirley was a wonderful homemaker. She loved to travel and she dearly loved all children. In the last few years, she was especially close to her 8-year old great granddaughter, Lauren Mitchell.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Burden (Bob) and Debbie Burton (David) both of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Heather Mitchell, Chris Spalding, Angela Spalding and Ashley Wells; great grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell and Bentley Garrett; two sisters, Peggy Mae Boyd and Judy Kessinger (Danny); and two brothers, Jack Sheffield (Joy) and Bobby Sheffield (Paulette). Shirley will be dearly missed. Her family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Hospice of Western KY.
Services are 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
