Sarah Hawes, 87

obit1OWENSBORO, Ky. – Sarah Hawes, 87, a resident of Richland Place of Nashville, TN, formerly of Owensboro, KY, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

She was born July 13, 1925 in Owensboro, KY, to the late Allen and Rosalie Mills. She retired as a bookkeeper with the Daviess County Board of Education after 31 years of employment where she oversaw the budgets of all federal education programs. She was a member of the Lewis Lane Baptist Church of Owensboro where she was involved in multiple volunteer outreach efforts, the Reflectors Service Sunday School Class, and the Gina Roberts Missionary Group; and a member of the First Baptist Church of Nashville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Buford Hawes on October 20, 1983, and by her son, James Arvin Hawes in 1952.

Survivors include her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Alene H. Harris and Dr. Thomas R. Harris, of Nashville, TN; two grandsons, Calvin Harris and Andrew Harris, grand-daughter-in-law Dorothee Harris, great-granddaughter, Amelia Harris, and "adopted" granddaughter, Theresa Getchell.

Services are 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory at 3009 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Lewis Lane Baptist Church, 2600 Lewis Lane, Owensboro, KY 42301.
