Elizabeth King Shelton Basham

6flowerOWENSBORO, Ky. - Elizabeth King Shelton Basham went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 10, 2013 with her family by her side, following a long illness. She was born in Calhoun, KY on October 7, 1934 to Fannie (Bray) and Estill King.

She had worked at King's Department Store when it first opened, then on to Baynhams Shoes, Walters Shoes and Sears shoe and apparel departments. She also worked in daycare for several years. In earlier years, the family were members of the Owensboro Hillbilly Camping Club. She, Tom and the children loved camping. One of the things she missed the most after her illness progressed was attending her Sunday school class at Wing Avenue Baptist Church, where she had been a member for over 50 years. Elizabeth loved spending time with her family. She would do all she could for her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Fannie Bray; stepfather, John Bray; her father, Estill King; several aunts and uncles; and her fiancé, Gordon Clark.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Shelton Morgan and Karen Shelton both of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Melanie Morgan Johnston of Jacksonville, NC, Ryan Shelton of Salem, VA, Jason Stovall and girlfriend, Ashley Gilmore of Owensboro and Melissa Shelton Hagan and husband, Jon of Owensboro; great grandchildren, Jai, Noah, Hannah, Braylee and Tinley; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Karen King of Owensboro; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Roger Cranz of Owensboro. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Hospice of Western KY; especially, Deborah, Amber, Kelly, Mark, Kristy and all others who helped so much.

Services are 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery in Ohio County, KY. Visitation is from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Western KY, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
