OWENSBORO, Ky. - Dr. Lowell L. (Doc) Bates, 83, of Owensboro, Ky passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on May 9, 1930 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Jesse and Lulu Gertrude Vanover Bates. Doc was a retired dentist after 37 years in private practice. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisville in 1955 and was a graduate of U. of L. Dental School in 1959. He was a member of the Green River Dental Society, the Ky Dental Assoc., and the American Dental Assoc. He had also served as a Ky State Board Dental Examiner. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling. He was a former member of the Windridge Country Club and had made three hole-in-ones that he was very proud of. He was a U. S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict Era. Doc was a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and was a KY Colonel.
Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Aud Bates, who he had been together with for 18 years, two sons, David Lowell Bates of Salvisa, KY and Keith LaDale (Kelly) Bates of Panama City Beach, FL, and a sister, Allene Pauli of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving are his extended family, three daughters, Stacey Hagan of Owensboro, Barbie (Tom) Korfhage of Owensboro, and Janie Aud-Riney (John) of Katy, TX, two sons, Dr. William J. (Karen) Aud and Dr. Gary S. (Ellen) Aud, all of Owensboro, 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 27, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday with prayers at 7:00 P.M. and from 8:30-9:30 A.M. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
