Outdoors with Big Country – Snakes! Snakes!

snake1 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (7/2/13) – While the avid outdoorsmen pictured here, Justin Haywood and Cody Mercer, were out checking their deer trail cameras for current pictures, they came across these two big Rattlesnakes.

Every summer, local bow hunters will set out trail cams to monitor their deer population and see how the bucks are growing their velvet racks. One might consider a trek to the trail cam to be a fairly easy task, with low risk. However, in years when the snake population is as high as it currently stands, this is not always the case.

If you’re out in the wilderness, it’s a good idea to keep one eye on the ground as you make your way through the woods. Rattlesnakes, among other breeds of snakes, are becoming more and more common in Muhlenberg and surrounding areas.

Take your time and be very careful while you are out in the great outdoors, and keep an eye on every step you take. You may be surprised to find out what is on the other side of that log.
