OWENSBORO, Ky. - John T. Adkisson, 57, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born October 31, 1955 in Owensboro. He was a union boilermaker of Local #40, an ironworker for Local #103 and Windy Hollow Speedway techman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Dad not only to his kids, but many others. He was a highly respected mechanic and race engine builder. John enjoyed racing cars, especially with his sons, and Nascar. He enjoyed taking care of his fish pond and loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandkids, family and friends. John never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone who needed help. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Elma Adkisson; his sister, Mary H. Clark; and nephew, Jimmy Daniel.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Lisa; his children, John T. " JT" (Jessica) Ratliff of Beech Grove, Mandy (Ryan) Johnson of Utica; and Jeremy (Jami) Adkisson of Beech Grove, Shane (Kandace) Adkisson and Cody Adkisson both of Owensboro; stepdaughter, Kimberly (Tim) LaMotte of Owensboro; stepson, Walter (Leslie) Karney of Owensboro; brothers, Gardner "Junior" (Edith) Daniels of Hartford and Billy (Leslie) Adkisson of Owensboro; sisters, Elizabeth Powers of and Rita Embry both of Owensboro ; brothers-in-law, Eddie Clark of Tennessee and Mike Conder of Owensboro; sister-in-law, Sharon (Larry) Gaddis of Owensboro; father-in-law, Harold Conder of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services are 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial with military honors is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in his honor be made to the John T. Adkisson Memorial Fund, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
