OWENSBORO, Ky. - Mary Wilma Russell Endicott, of Owensboro, Ky went to meet her mother peacefully on July 19, 2013 at Kindred Healthcare. Wilma was born on January 12, 1923 near the St. Raphael community to the late Henry Russell and Mary Nettie Vowels. She later moved near West Louisville and then St. Joseph with her family. Wilma attended St. Raphael’s Elementary school and West Louisville graduating from Mt. St. Joseph in 1941. She moved to Evansville during WWII to work. Wilma met her husband, Joe Endicott there and they married in 1946.
She was a military wife for many years moving from Guam, France, Germany, and England. Wilma was fortunate enough to see Pope John Paul XXIII at the Vatican. She lived in Washington D.C., Colorado, San Francisco and then her husband retired and moved to Phoenix, AZ for 42 years. Wilma loved to sew, gardening and taking care of her backyard orange trees. She loved to cook and entertain friends as well. Wilma volunteered at many church activities at Most Holy Trinity Church and belonged to the “Our Lady of the Wayside Sodality”. She adopted two children while in Germany, Robert Endicott and Suzanne Herrin both of Spokane, WA. Her grandchildren were Robert, Chelsea and Rachel Endicott. Wilma moved back to Owensboro in 2007 when her nephew, Grady (Donna) Ebelhar became her primary caregivers.
Mary also was preceded in death by her siblings, H.I. and Elmo Russell, Stansell Ebelhar and Geraldine Grizzard.
She also is survived by a sister, Mary Riney of Owensboro.
Services will be Monday at 10:30 am at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with burial following at the church cemetery. Fr. Mark Buckner will preside. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 pm at Glenn Funeral Home & Crematory with prayers at 5 pm.
