OWENSBORO, Ky. - Doris Irene (Aunt Sis) Hertel, 91, of Owensboro, KY passed away August 25, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in the town of Ramsey, IL on February 4, 1922, to the late Marsh and Pearl Richardson. She graduated from Ramsey High School in 1941. In 1942, she married the late Eugene Albert Hertel. Doris was of Christian faith and lived her life reflecting those beliefs to others. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. She created a loving home where anyone could feel welcome. Doris had a deep love and appreciation for animals and nature. She enjoyed traveling, especially out West to enjoy the mountain scenery, wildlife and endless natural beauty. She had an infectious smile, a kind heart, and was an attentive listener; those who knew and loved Doris will never forget her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Albert Hertel; her son, Ronald Eugene Hertel; and her brothers, Omar Richardson, Marshall Richardson and Rudy Richardson.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Pamela Ann Fifield (Michael Dennis) of Owensboro; her grandson, Benjamin Alan Hertel of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter, Allison Rae Reid (Michael James) of Louisville, KY; two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Elizabeth Reid and Anna Katherine Reid; and a sister, Lois Warren of Owensboro. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a dear family friend, David E. Kuegel.
Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Resurrection Cemetery, with burial to follow. Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western KY, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301.
