Martha H. Poole, 88, of Owensboro, Ky

obit5OWENSBORO, Ky. - Martha H. Poole, 88, of Owensboro, Ky passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at her home. Martha was born May 25, 1925 to the late Ben and Frances Hardesty in Daviess County. She retired from the Cigar Factory and then enjoyed working at Ellis Park. Martha’s greatest joys were her family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Prayer and faith were very important to Martha and she attended St. Stephens daily as long as she was able.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband William 'Bill ' Poole in 1995 and her only son, Larry Lyons in 2012. She was also preceded in death by six siblings and a seventh sibling, Marge O’Bryan who was also Martha’s lifelong best friend.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Lisa Crabtree (Todd) of Owensboro, Jackie Gates (Jeremy) of Henderson, Shaina and Kelsey Lyons of Florida, Natalie and Mark Condon of Massachusetts and a special grandson, Hugh Patrick Boarman of Owensboro.

Martha’s great grandchildren include Michael Crabtree, Anna and Luke Gates, Andrew Kunnen, Liam Bartee and Gavin Moore. She is also survived by a stepdaughter, Marian Condon of Massachusetts, a sister, Patsy Douglas (Roy) and a very special nephew Tom 'T.O. ' O’Bryan as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Martha had a kindness and loving way about her and was always there for those who needed her. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church with Father Ed Bradley officiating and burial to follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Prayers said 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Glenmary Sisters, 405 W Parrish Avenue, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
