George Hilary Ballard, Sr., 90 of Owensboro, Ky

OWENSBORO, Ky. - George Hilary Ballard, Sr., 90 of Owensboro, Ky passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013. He was born on October 10 1922, in Daviess County to the late Evaristus and Birdie Leigh Ballard. He was retired from Green River Steel and was a retired member of United Steel Workers of America Local 4959. George also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Father Connor Council 6101, the Serra Club, and a Ky Colonel. He served in the US Navy.

He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He loved baseball, football, NASCAR in addition to all other sports.

George was also preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his wife Mary Virginia Clark Ballard; his children, George H. (Marsha) Ballard, Jr. of Owensboro, Elaine Ballard of Owensboro, Theresa (Paul) Payne of Owensboro, Bernard (Susan) Ballard of Hartford, Bill (Rebecca) Ballard of Owensboro, David (Kay) Ballard of Owensboro, Joseph (Karen) Ballard of Owensboro and Robert (Rebecca) Ballard of Owensboro; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with the Rev. John Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter of Alcantara Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Haley McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said Monday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
