Blue Collar Comments – Citizens Police Academy

bluecc300 DHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (9/17/13) – Scott Rogers here again, with Blue Collar Comments. I’m looking forward to the Class of the Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) hosted by the Madisonville Police Department (MPD).

On the 10th of this month we had our first class. Twenty-five local citizens attended.

I would like to thank Madisonville Police Chief Wade Williams and Lt. Robert Carter for telling us the history of the MPD during our first class, covering from 100 years ago until today.

This is the 13th CPA class to be held at MPD.

I’m very proud to be a part of this class, and of the generosity and kindness of local law enforcement that has allowed me an inside look at how our local law works. I’ve had the opportunity to do ride-alongs with the Madisonville Police, Sheriff’s Department, and State Police.

As for the MPD CPA class, here is a list of things that the class will be covering:

-Week one – Command Staff Introductions/History
-Week two – Patrol Operations
-Week three – Traffic Stops
-Week four – Specialized Units and Firearms
-Week five – Use of Force
-Week six – Vice Narcotics
-Week seven – Criminal Investigations
-Week eight – Electronic Crimes and Dispatch
-Week nine – Hopkins County Detention CenterWeek one – Command Staff

The academy will end with a graduation dinner.

I would like to take time to thank the Chief, Lt. Carter and the other officers for taking time to show us what the men and women in uniform do on a daily basis to protect and serve our community.

Please say a pray for these men and women that risk all every day to make sure we have a safe community.

I rest my case.

Scott Rogers
