Deer Park Students Create “Art For The Sky”

art-for-the-sky 300x314OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/20/13) -Deer Park Elementary celebrated High Attendance Week with an ‘Art For the Sky’ design featuring students and staff on Wednesday.

The nationally recognized conceptual artist Daniel Dancer of Oregon, designed the unique art that would represent school. The artist started with a grid and students assisted him in laying it out for the design. Students and staff were positioned in spots with different colored t-shirts to create the deer design.

Dancer’s mission was to teach the children that a “big picture” view of the world is essential. The project also intended to teach the children the “importance of planning and intentional thought processes, collaboration, interconnection, gratitude, and importance that every moment is gracious and that everything is in a state of evolution and change”, DCPS Public Information Officer Lora Wimsatt, said in a press release.

“Sky sight” was also a key element in the design.

“Our individual and societal problems may be compared to a sky art image,” Dancer said in a DCPS press release. “Training our imaginations to awaken our 'sky sight,' to rise above our problems and see the elusive Grand Picture and how each part fits into the whole is a vital skill that can lead us to the most creative solutions.”
