Legislative Committee Meeting Held at MCC

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (9/25/13) – Madisonville Community College (MCC) hosted the third meeting of the Special Subcommittee on Energy on Friday, September 20, in the Quad Room of the Brown Badgett, Sr. Energy and Advanced Technology Center.

Senator Jared Carpenter and Representative Richard Henderson co-chaired the meeting. Local legislators in attendance were Senator Jerry Rhoads, Senator Dorsey Ridley, and Representative Jim Gooch.
 
The agenda focused on the future of western Kentucky coal and included presentations from David Moss, Vice President/Director of Governmental Affairs – Kentucky Coal Association; Rusty Ashcraft, Manager of Government Affairs and Environmental Policy – Alliance Coal, LLC; and David Clardy, Vice President of Matrix. The subcommittee also heard from Gary Whisman, Executive Director of the Kentucky Coal Academy (KCA); Danny Knott, Director of KCA MCC Mine Rescue Training, and Ricky Caskey, KCA MCC Mine Fire Brigade.
 
Following the Subcommittee meeting, legislators were offered the opportunity to tour local underground and surface Alliance Coal, LLC mines.
