OWENSBORO, Ky. - John Franklin Jones, Sr., 91, of Owensboro, Ky passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Western KY Veterans Center. He was born January 27, 1922 in Daviess County to the late Samuel Tilden and Mary Eula Coomes Jones. He retired from Green River Electric and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral, Sons of Confederate Veterans, VFW 696 and the American Legion. Mr. Jones enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening and refinishing antique furniture.
Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Jones (2006), a son, Walter Tilden Jones, two infant sons, Charles Jones and Joseph Jones, a granddaughter, Amy C. Krakowski and three brothers, Earl Jones, Hugh Jones and Leo Jones.
Surviving are his children, John F. “Frankie” Jones, Jr. and his wife, Theresa, Doris M. Ferguson and her husband, Harvey, Virginia A. Stevens and her husband Wayne and Susan M. Jones, all of Owensboro. He is also survived by six grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Cathedral with Father Tony Jones officiating and burial to follow with full military honors in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and Monday from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will be said Sunday at 5:30 p.m..
