OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/22/13) - The City of Owensboro's 21st annual Christmas card will celebrate its recent designation as an 'All-America City' of 2013. Children in local elementary schools, grades three to six are invited to submit paintings or drawings to illustrate a theme of "An All-American Christmas in Owensboro" for the 2013 holiday card.
The competition is being coordinated by the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art and will result in a selec-tion of three winning entries which will be illustrated on the card. Participating children are encouraged to express themselves creatively in a painting or drawing that depicts a festive holiday based upon their idea of what makes Owensboro an 'All-American City'.
Works of art to be considered for the card are due at the museum by Nov.1. The entries will be juried by a committee of artists and museum staff, who will select five finalists which will be presented to the City Commission to determine the first, second, and third-place winners to appear on the card. The first-place winner will receive a $100 savings bond from the City, with the second and third place win-ners receiving $50 bonds. All three will receive junior memberships in the museum's Friends of the Foundation that offers discounts on classes and gift shop purchases.
A juried selection of the submitted entries will be exhibited in the art museum's Young at Art Gallery, Nov. 22 to Dec. 31, as a part of the annual Festival of Trees, the 37th Holiday Forest exhibition.
The cards will go on sale in mid-Nov. and can be purchased at local gift shops, including the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art. For more information, please contact the museum at (270) 685-3181.
