Gloria Jean 'Jeannie' Menzies, 68, of Owensboro, Ky

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Gloria Jean 'Jeannie' Menzies, 68, of Owensboro, Ky passed away on Friday, November 1, 2013, at home. She was born on August 20, 1945, in Owensboro to the late Homer Knott and her surviving mother Sue Irene Castlen Mattingly. She was retired from Canteen Service Company where she worked for seven years. She served with love and laughter while catering around the Owensboro area at such places as Brescia College and Unifirst. Jeannie also supervised individuals with special needs at the former Pinocchio’s Deli in Downtown Owensboro. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her very large extended family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She spent many moments playing Bingo with her best friend Ruth, and listening to music especially listening to Elvis’ songs. She also enjoyed arts, crafts, crocheting, and painting. Jeannie was also a self-taught keyboardist.

Including her father she was also preceded in death by her husband Jack Harry Menzies in March, 2001; a sister Martha Stinnett; and two nephews, Kevin Wayne Embry and David Alton Bryant, a niece Dixie Bryant Brochess.

Including her mother she is survived by a son Keith A. (Donya) Menzies; a daughter Christy K. (Tim) Stites; her grandchildren, Shayla Marie Menzies, Skylar Beth Menzies and Cameron Stites; a brother Thomas W. Embry; and several nieces and nephews, Tyler M. Embry, Chance T. Embry, Amanda R. Brown, Bobby Jo (Shawn) Embry-Nelson, Susan (Ben) Dicesare, Sharon (Chris) Embry-Tiart, Gale (Laddie) Lesnick and Tony (Terri) Stinnett, one great-niece, Jackie Morgan Boyt; and her beloved friend Ruth E. Lemaitre.

Services are at 12:00 noon Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Tuesday at the funeral home. A private burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gloria Jean 'Jeannie' Menzies Memorial Fund, c/o Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home, 519 Locust Street, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
