OWENSBORO, Ky. - Robert H. Berry, 87, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born July 9, 1926 in Berea, Ky to the late Lee C. and Frances Collins Berry. He was an educator and principal, retiring after 41 years of service in the Daviess County School System, beginning his career at Utica High School in 1949 and ending as principal of Burns Middle School in 1990. He attended Maysville High School and went on to earn his BS degree from Eastern Ky University and his MA degree from the University of Ky. Mr. Berry was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Missouri. He was a former member of Utica Baptist Church where he held various roles in the church. He is a current member of the First Baptist Church and Maverick Sunday School Class. He was a founding member of the Utica Fire Department, a member of various education associations and was a Ky Colonel. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Virginia Gore Berry in 2000.
He is survived by two brothers, Jack Berry (Louda) of Richmond, Ky and James 'Jim' Berry of Flemingsburg, Ky; nieces, Jackqulyn Berry of Mt. Sterling, Ky, and Mary Lisa Gore Tunget (Gary) of Owensboro; nephews, John Berry (Joni) of Richmond, Ky, Mike Gore (Cindy) of Brandenburg, Ky and Glenn Gore (Carol) of Clyde, NC.
Services are 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m-2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church, P.O.
