Susan Eleanor Merimee, 95, of Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY - Susan Eleanor Merimee, 95, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Owensboro Medical Health System.

She was born December 9, 1915 in Henderson County, Kentucky to the late Frank Higgins and Ella Utley Higgins.. She was retired from Salm's Department Store and Baynham's Shoe Store and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed quilting and baking pies. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Orville Merimee (1974), a sister, Doris Luebbert and an infant sister, Jane Higgins.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy (Bob) Volk, two sons, Edwin (Barbara) Merimee, and Danny (Patty) Merimee, all of Owensboro, nine grandchildren, Stephen (Kay) Merimee, Jeffery (Robin) Merimee, Shelly (Jim) Heisler, Keith (Sharon) Volk, Rodney Volk, Barry (Lisa) Volk, Stacey (Maurice) Owen, Melissa Merimee and Brian Merimee, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Juanita Harrison and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00am Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with Father Mark Buckner officiating and burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 8:00 to 10:00am Thursday at the funeral home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
