Thornton loved baseball and football. He played baseball with the Western Little League at Moreland Park and football with the Youth Football League at Waymond Morris Park. One of the highlights of his baseball career was he hit a triple to drive in the winning run and give his Cardinals team the league championship in 2012. He was a member of Greater Ebenezer Pentecostal Church and the River City Rollerz Motorcycle Club. Thornton was also a special friend of Northern Kentucky University and their baseball team and they had adopted him as their own. They became friends with him through the “Friends of Jaclyn Foundation” which is a foundation to help children with brain tumors.
Thornton was preceded in death by his grandmother, Sherry Harris on October 27, 2010, and great grandmothers, Ruby Gray in 2009 and Willadean Abbott in 2008.
Surviving are his parents, Elizabeth BreAnne Harris of Owensboro and Teon Thornton of Owensboro; his Pepaw, Lanny Harris of Owensboro; grandparents Ronnie and Penny Thornton of Owensboro; his brothers, Hasheid and Ashaurion Thornton, both of Owensboro and Chris Oliver of Princeton; a sister, Felicia Thornton of Owensboro; his uncles, Stacy and Scotty Sholar of Owensboro, Brandon Harris of Owensboro, and Lamont Thornton of California; and aunts, Lakisha Johnson of Owensboro and Tameka Gray of Marion.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 4, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family of Zhauntez Thornton, c/o any PNC Bank in Owensboro, Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family has also requested that friends please not send food or flowers.
