Edward L. McCrackin, 70, Owensboro, Ky.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/21/14) — Edward L. McCrackin, 70, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

He was born June 16, 1943, in Amarillo, Texas to Eugenia Lusk McCrackin and the late Ellis McCrackin. He was a Master Plumber for McCrackin’s Service Company which he owned and operated. He was passionate about the ethical treatment of humans and animals, an avid environmentalist, a history buff and enjoyed his family, gardening, his pets, birds and all wildlife. During his younger years, he was an authentic western cowboy who rode the range and worked cattle in Colorado and Texas. Later he had a fifteen year career as a psychiatric technician at Fort Lyon VA Hospital in Colorado, where he met his future wife. He is described by friends as "a true man’s man" "his word was his bond." He participated in Habitat for Humanity and Owensboro/Daviess County Repair Affair. He was generous and always willing to lend a hand to people in need. After moving to Owensboro in 1978 with his new bride, he attended Owensboro Vocational School and studied plumbing. After graduating, he taught plumbing and worked in the industry before opening his business in 1981. He enjoyed his customers and providing quality services.

Aside from his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Purvine.

Along with his mother he is survived by his wife, Judy Hudson McCrackin, a son, Scott E. McCrackin, a daughter, Wendy McCrackin all of Owensboro, two brothers, Robert ‘Bob’ McCrackin of Las Animas, Colo. and Jerry (Jane) McCrackin of Springfield, Colo., two sisters, Patricia (Sip) Garcia of Las Animas, Colo. and Helen (Jim) Fleck of Florissant, Colo., three sisters-in-law, the late Becky (Chuck) McCaslin of Owensboro, Vicki (Alex) Simms of Princeton and Debbie (David) Shelton of New Port Richey, Fla., one brother-in-law, Ronnie Towery and his late wife, Jan of Owensboro, his mother and father-in-law, Mary and Victor C. Hudson of Owensboro, three grandchildren of Colorado and twenty nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Webb officiating.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to any of the following: Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, Ky. 42301; Owensboro Humane Society, 3101 W Second St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301; American Red Cross, 416 W 3rd St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301 and Help Office of Owensboro, 1316 W. 4th St., Owensboro, Ky. 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
