OWENSBORO, Ky. – Wilsie E. Ward, 81, of Philpot passed away at his home on July 9, 2014. He was born February 22, 1933 in Amarillo, Texas to the late I.J. and Mary Beatrice Peak Ward. He was retired from W.R. Grace after 28 years in maintenance. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a Eucharistic minister. He enjoyed watching UK basketball and being with his family. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ward, 2011; two brothers, Charles A.”Tony” Ward and Martin A. Ward; and two great grandchildren.
Surviving are his seven children, Paul Phillip (Bobbie) Ward of Owensboro, Mark (Kathie) Ward of Philpot, Dale (Kathy) Ward of Moody, Texas, Brenda (Melvin) Pruitt of Owensboro, Donna (Bob) Lawson of Owensboro, John (Sarah) Ward of Savannah, Ga. and Ann (Bruce) Burns of Philpot; nineteen grandchildren, Richard Allen Ward, David Ward, Misty Striegel, Lea Ann Alvey, Tim Ward, Rachel Morris, Rhonda Johnson, Katrina Frasure, Sherry Reed, Nikki Jones, Sara Ward, Todd Lawson, Joe Pruitt, Russell Lawson, Chris Burns, Nick Burns, Eric Daugherty, Phillip Ward and Josh Ward; thirty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his four sisters, Kathleen Wedding, Betty Hamilton, Barbara Jones and Rita Ward; four brothers, Harold Ward, Haymen (Marie) Ward, Bob (Helen) Ward and Donnie (Paula) Ward; sister-in-law, Sharon Ward; special aunt, Sister Jean Madeline Peak and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to the five caregivers who gave their love and service to Wilsie during his time of need, Missy, Bonnie, Rita, Cyndi and Rosie. Also a special thanks to Hospice for their comfort and support during Wilsie’s time of need.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father Julian Ibemere officiating and entombment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery
Visitation at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Prayers will be said 6 p.m. Friday.
