OWENSBORO, KY - Eugene Evans, Sr., 89, of Owensboro, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at Owensboro Medical Health System.
He had been employed by A&P Grocery in both Henderson and Owensboro and later retired from Thriftway Lumber Company. He was an elder and member of First Christian Church. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a machine gunner and radio operator on a B17 bomber and was shot down over Belgium. He was a woodworker and enjoyed building furniture.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Ora Eudell Evans; three sons, Eugene Evans, Jr. of Owensboro, Bill Evans and wife, Debbie of Owensboro and George Evans and wife, Judy of Parkersburg, WV; a daughter, Susan Edmondson and husband, Mike of Owensboro; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two brothers, Thurman Evans and Charles Evans both of Owensboro.
Services are at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday and after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
