Threasa Aileen Abel, 96, of Owensboro

 

3flowerOWENSBORO, KY - Threasa Aileen Abel, 96, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Carmel Home.

Born in Daviess County on August 6, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Roy Charles and Catherine Bowling Simmons; was a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; and was retired from the American Tobacco Company.  Mrs. Abel enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Robert E. Abel in 1999; a brother, Houston Simmons; and sisters, Virginia Batman, Kathleen Tarter, Lucille Clark, and Rosita Blandford.

Surviving are sons, Gene (Carolyn) Abel and Larry (Sheila) Abel of Owensboro; daughters, Sister Rebecca Abel, OSB of Rome, Italy and Martha (William) Walker of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jeff Abel, Kristy Fulkerson, Leslie Bradshaw, Amy Claycomb, Threasa “Terry” Conley, Tim Walker, and Greg Abel; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, W. C. Simmons of Owensboro; a sister, Marie Nunnally of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Services are  11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 in the Carmel Home Chapel with Father Brad Whistle officiating followed by burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Carmel Home. Prayers will said at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Sisters of St Benedict, 810 E. 10th St., Ferdinand, IN 47532 or the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Rd., Owensboro, KY 42303.
