OWENSBORO, KY - Earl N. Wells, 88, of Owensboro, passed away November 30, 2011 at his home. He was born October 25, 1923 in Muhlenberg County to the late Earl and Florence Wells. He retired from Ideal Pure Milk Company after 33 years, worked at Har-Ken Oil for 10 years and was retired from Owensboro National Bank as a courier after 12 years. Mr. Wells was a member of Immaculate Church and a previous member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Union Steward with the Teamster's Union at Ideal Pure Milk Company, past President of Apollo Athletic Booster Club, and a leader for Daviess County 4-H Club. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, traveling, playing cards and was also a member of the local square dancing club.
Mr. Wells was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Florence Wells, a brother, Douglas Wells, a sister, Roberta Redfern and a stepfather, Guy Redfern.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Wells after 64 years of marriage, 2 sons, Allen Wells and his wife, Diana of Owensboro, Greg Wells and his wife, Sue of Owensboro, 3 daughters, Pat Daugherty of Owensboro and her friend "Slats" Parker of Owensboro, Jane Peveler and her husband Dwain of Smyrna, TN, Ann Shelton and her husband Bill of Concord, NC, 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a sister, Eva Petty and her husband Ray of Greenwood, IN. and special caregivers, Pat Harris and Fawn Schiedegger and Wellington Parc Staff & Employees.
Services will be 11:00am Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Immaculate Catholic Church with Father Tony Jones officiating and burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 8:00pm Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and from 9:00 to 10:00am Saturday at the funeral home. Prayers will be 6:00pm Friday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Joseph Peace Mission or Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
