Beulah Reeves James Hajek, 93, of Owensboro

 

6flowerOWENSBORO, KY - Beulah Reeves James Hajek, 93, of Owensboro passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at the Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born February 22, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Jennie Patrick and Charles Louis Reeves. She received her bachelor degree from Morehead State University in 1953; her master’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 1966; and her Rank I from Western Kentucky University in 1972. Her degrees were in the areas of elementary education, counseling, and school administration. Mrs. Hajek served in public education in Kentucky and Illinois for 40 years. She was a classroom teacher in Carter County, KY and in District 102, LaGrange, IL. She was a counselor in the Daviess County School System and served as principal at Sutherland and Burns Elementary Schools. She opened Burns Elementary School in 1975 and retired as Principal in 1983. Mrs. Hajek was a member of Grayson Methodist Church, Grayson, KY and Settle Memorial United Methodist Church in Owensboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Donald Clayton James in 1962 and Clement John Hajek in 1990; brothers, Melvin Reeves and Franklin Reeves; and sisters, Sylvia Adkins, Selvia Bartee, Tina Davis, Rena Reeves, and Eunice Vincent.

Surviving is her daughter, Jennie James Ragland of Owensboro; a grandson, James Neil Ragland of Atlanta, GA; and a niece and three nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Graveside service and burial will be 1:30 p.m. (EST) in Rose Hill Burial Park, Ashland, KY on Wednesday, December 21, 2011.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Daviess County Public Library, 2020 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.
