Henry E. Smith, 81, of Owensboro

 

2sunsetOWENSBORO, KY - Henry E. Smith, 81, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on June 11, 1930 in Daviess Co., KY to the late Elvis and Lula Brown Smith. He was retired from Owensboro Municipal Utilities as a water plant operator and also had worked as a printer with Progress Printing Co. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and enjoyed going to car shows and Cruise-Ins. Henry was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict in which he was very proud to have served his country and was a member of V. F. W. Post #696. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joan B. Smith on November 17, 1991.

Surviving are his sons, James Michael (Diane) Smith of Hernando, MS, William Larry (Shirley) Smith of Centertown, Elvis Madison (Kim) Smith of Nashville, TN, and Kevin Douglas (Debbie) Smith of Owensboro, four grandchildren, Jarrod Smith of Centertown, Sara Baize of Hartford, Christina Snyder and Amanda Smith, both of Owensboro, eight great grandchildren, and a sister, Eleanor Mattingly of Owensboro.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1302 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301. Online condolences may be placed at www.glennfuneralhome.com.
