Mary Jean Wetzel Cowan, 90, Lakeland

1cloudsOWENSBORO, KY - Mary Jean Wetzel Cowan, 90, Lakeland,  passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.

She was born June 14, 1921, in Harrison County, Ind., to the late Fauntleroy and Hazel Gertrude Wetzel. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Wayne "Bill" Cowan; her son, Byron Wayne Cowan; her sisters, Lydia Alma Broadley and Gerri Gaddis; and her brothers, Freddie Wetzel, Maurice Wetzel and Harold Robert "Bobby" Wetzel.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Cartwright and her husband, Glenn, of Lakeland; one son, Barry Cowan and his wife, Kathy, of Middlesboro, Ky.; one daughter-in-law, Linda Cowan of Henderson; two sisters, Joretta Scholl of Owensboro and Glenda Class of Zion, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Jo Frances Wetzel of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Eddie Cowan, Debbie Cowan, Billy Cowan, Missy Hybarger, Coby Cartwright, Barry Cowan Jr., Tony Cartwright, Jody Cartwright and Rob Cowan; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery in Calhoun, Ky.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
