Shirley Smith, 84, of Owensboro

obit6OWENSBORO, KY - Shirley Smith, 84, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Hermitage Care and rehabilitation Center. She was born on August 1, 1927 in Spring City, TN to the late Charles and Edith Belle Wassom. She was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and had worked for about 10 years at Taylors Drug Store in the Cosmetic Dept. Shirley enjoyed reading, raising her roses, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy S. Smith in 1987, sisters, Annabelle Stewart and Mary Louise Wassom, and brothers, Frank and Perry Wassom.

Surviving are her six children, Angie (Mark) DeArmond of Owensboro, Julie (Ricky) Hale of Owensboro, John Smith of Owensboro, Kathy Walker and Carolyn Tewell, both of Lexington, and Linda (Ed) Lewis of Owensboro, 12 grandchildren, Tyler DeArmond, Mattie DeArmond, Mamie Hale, Maegan Hale, Derek Smith, Davis Smith, Hadley Smith, Jordan Walker, Sherri Tewell, Michelle Slaughter, Trae Tewell, and Paul Lewis, 12 great grandchildren, two sisters, Barbara Smith of Lexington and Miriam Heflin of Paris, KY, two brothers, Clyde Wassom of Paris and Charles Wassom of DeWitt, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 12 Noon Monday, January 9, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday and after 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
