Vera Hazel (Mimi) Baird, age 96

obit17OWENSBORO, KY - Vera Hazel (Mimi) Baird, age 96 went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Vera was born September 27, 1915 to Carrie and Jacob Nesmith. She had worked at Kenrad and retired from W.T. Grant in 1976.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Emmett C. Baird in 1988, her sons; Larry Allen in 1950, Terry Wayne in 1952, Bruce Lee in 1971 and daughter Jackie in 2003, siblings Elbert, Orville, Jack, Charles, Mamie and Roberta.

Hazel was known as "the trunk lady" and the "quilt lady". She loved to can all types of fruits and vegetables and made the best apple butter.

Surviving are daughters, Charlotte Gipson of Philpot, Sue (Russ) Hilton of Portage, IN, Sharon Ferrara of Louisville, and Dianne (Larry) Vanover of Owensboro. Grandchildren are Chuck Vanve of Louisville, Bobbi Ann (Jerry Phillips) Chenault of Owensboro, Linda (Jeff) Gaw of Lebanon, TN, Keith Neal of Portage, IN David (Robyn) Ferrara of San Diego, CA, Tyler and Austin Vanover of Owensboro. Great grandchildren are Morghyn Neal of Portage, IN and Jesse Gaw of Lebanon, TN.

Services are at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 10. 2012 with Rev. Bruce Treon residing at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 Monday and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy are requested to be in memory of Vera Hazel Baird, 3009 Frederica Street, Owensboro, KY 42301.
