Reverend Denford Theodore (Dennie) Morris, Sr., 84, of Owensboro

 

treesunOWENSBORO, KY - Reverend Denford Theodore (Dennie) Morris, Sr., 84, of Owensboro was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 9, 2012.

Dennie was born March 28, 1927 to Audrey Mae and Bernard Morris. He was a World War II Army/Air Corps veteran, retired pastor from several counties in Kentucky and Florida, former farmer and an Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital employee.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his sons, Denford Darrell Morris, Jerry Dale Morris, Larry Morris and Barry Morris; grandson, Aaron Newton; brother, Clinford "Shorty" Morris; and sister, Winford Morris.

Dennie was a devout family man who spent every day of his life loving his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. He was a steadfast Christian who loved to read devotionals, commentaries and share the "Good Word of the Lord". Dennie was also a proud member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church and a lifetime member of AMVETS and VFW.

Surviving are his loving wife of forty-six years, Aliene Martin Morris; children, Denford Theodore (Cynthia) Morris, Jr. of Marion, IL, Mark (Lia) Morris of Gulf Springs, FL, Byron (Kelly) Morris of Owensboro, KY, Carletta (Gary) Newton of Lewisport, KY, Julia (Dale) Howell of Owensboro, KY, Jim (Cindy) Smith of Louisville, KY, Kevin Smith of Owensboro, KY, Angie (Kent) McLawhorn of Rock Hill, SC, Violet (Robert) Estes of Richmond, VA; siblings, Ruby Pulliam of Owensboro, KY, Violet (Paul) Justice of Centralia, WA, Maxie (Eulene) Morris of Weber, KY; grandchildren, Chris Morris, Shana Roberts, Bradley Smith, Caleb Howell, Mackenzee Smith, Jessica Morris, Olivia Morris, Jacob Morris, Daniel Morris, Lisa Snyder, Jeff McLawhorn, Robbie Estes and Justin Estes; several special nieces and nephews and numerous dear great grandchildren.

1Thessalonians 4:13, But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

2Timothy 4:7, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.

On the wings of angels God called one of His good and faithful servants home. Dad, you will never be forgotten and always missed. We learned many valuable life lessons from the world's best model of what it meant to be a good human being.

Funeral services are at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro with the Reverends Eugene Howard and Brian Adkins presiding. Burial will follow in Lewisport Cemetery in Lewisport, KY. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted but expressions of sympathy are requested to be in memory of Denford Morris, Sr. to the Western Kentucky Hospice, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1133, Owensboro, KY 42302.
