HENDERSON, KY - William H. (Bill) Womack was taken to his eternal resting place on November 17, 2012 at 6:44 PM.
Bill was born March 21, 1928 in Henderson to the late Garvin and Mattie Womack. He was 84 years old at the time of his death. Bill was a lifelong resident of Henderson. He was an accomplished athlete having played all sports and quarterback at BMTHS and thereafter quarterback at the University of Louisville. He was instrumental in the formation of local peewee, little league and youth football programs along with other individuals in the ‘50s. He was an accomplished coach, having coached with others the ’59 4 A state football champs. He was a teacher and principal at elementary and high school levels in the community having a positive impact on all the students. He also served on the city commission and other organizations exhibiting a genuine concern for improving the welfare of the community.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters; Dorothy Ellison, Loretta Hazelwood, Travis Cooper, Francis Womack, and Martha Smithart.
He is survived by his wife Etta M. Womack who was devoted to and beloved by for over 62 years. There are also three sons and one daughter, Zack N. Womack and his wife Mary Beth Womack of Henderson, William “Randy Womack and his wife Cindy Womack of Henderson, James G. Womack and his wife Mona Womack of Lexington, KY and a daughter; Kara Ferrell of Herron , IL. There are twelve grandchildren; Dax Womack, Nic Womack, Mason Womack, Casey Womack, Jason Womack, Kelley Flynn, Emily Heistand, Jacob Womack, Joel Womack, Chelsea Clampett, Morgan Ballard and Logan Ballard. There are 13 great grandchildren; Baylee Womack, Beckam Womack, Taylor Womack, Rachel Womack, Grace Womack, Brooklyn Flynn, Carson Flynn, Houstan Flynn, Parker Heistand, Randy Womack, Barbie Womack, Will Womack and Liz Womack along with nieces, nephews and many, many friends. What a truly wonderful life!
Services will be held at 12:00 Wednesday November 21, 2012 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel. Dr. Dave Leslie will officiate.
Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 and Wednesday 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
