HENDERSON, Ky. - Ira Wayne Williams, age 88, of Henderson, KY, passed away at 7:45 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Williams served in the US Army during WWII and saw action in the Ardennes, Rhineland and other parts of Central Europe. He received the Europe-Africa-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He spent 36 years working as a roughneck in oil field production. Mr. Williams was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edna Mae, parents, Charles and Clara Williams, and 10 siblings.
Survivors include: Granddaughter and primary caregiver: Julie Watkins of Henderson; 1 Sister: Virginia Ruth Etheridge of Nevada; 3 Brothers: Cabel and his wife Toni Williams of IL, Walter and his wife Elizabeth Williams of NM, Chester and his wife Sandra Williams of RI; Nieces and Nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Ira's Life Celebration® from 2-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 8 and again on Wednesday, starting at 9 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home where the service will be held at 11. Rev. Donnie Risley will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
