LEXINGTON, Ky. (3/14/13) – A group from Beaumont Middle School took first-place honors in Kentucky's Destination ImagiNation state tournament and qualified for the global finals May 22-25 in Knoxville.
Their team, “That is NOT the Point!” solved problems given on the spot as well as a silent challenge that told a story.
Hannah Broomhall, Shamik Chandrachood, Elyse Halwes, Neal Rekhraj and Adam Telechbush spend their Fridays practicing challenges and working together as a team. At the March 2 state contest, they wowed the appraisers and showed what creativity, teamwork and perseverance can do. The group’s managers are Cindy Sharp, Sheela Chandrachood and Kelly Telech, assisted by Mona Azeem.
Destination ImagiNation is a problem-solving program that helps young people work and grow as a team while enhancing their self-confidence and critical-thinking skills. Each of the challenges offers a different focus such as technical and structural design, theater arts, story development, architecture and engineering.
