Lena Mae Carter Schenk, age 86, of Henderson, KY

HENDERSON, Ky. - Lena Mae Carter Schenk, age 86, of Henderson, KY, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 7:00am at Redbanks Nursing Home under the care of St. Anthony's Hospice.

Lena was born in 1926 and grew up in the Baskett community. She was the last living survivor of 14 children born to Willie and Elizabeth (Lizzie) McCormick. Lena attended Weaverton School until she started working at Atlas Tack where she met and later married Harley Carter.

Lena later started working at Bear Brand Hosiery and Osborn Brush. She raised her two step children, Joyce Alexander and Bobby Carter. The family worked hard and loved to relax and enjoy their vacation time. Lena and Harley would travel for two weeks whenever vacation time rolled around every year.

After the death of her first husband, she later married Albert Schenk of Evansville. He was a childhood sweetheart of hers and they shared 7 happy years together before he passed away.

Lena was one of the original members of Hyland Baptist church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Harley Carter and Albert Schenk, her step daughter, Joyce M. Alexander, and her 13 siblings.

Survivors include: Step Daughter: Linda Alexander and husband Arthur Underwood, IN; Step Son: Bobby Ray Carter and wife Shirley Henderson, KY; Granddaughter: Deborah Burdin and husband Kelly Fredericksburg, VA; Great Granddaughter: Laura Burdin Fredericksburg, VA; Nieces and Nephews.

Family and friends are invited to Lena's Life Celebration on Tuesday, March 19, from 4-8pm and again on Wednesday from 10am until service time at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Her Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 11:00am at the funeral home. Reverend Kenny Kidd will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hyland Baptist Church and/or St. Anthony's Hospice.
