HENDERSON, Ky. - Raymond Paul Thompson, age 86, of Henderson, KY. passed away at 8:24 AM, Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Methodist Hospital.
He was born in Chicago, but grew up around Madisonville, Ky. Raymond left high school at the young age of 17 "with his mother's permission" and joined the Navy during World War II. He became a Seabee and served in Okinawa. In August of 1947 he married the love of his life, Lillian Farthing. Raymond had retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 24 years and had also worked as a miner for Peabody Coal Co. Every 5 years he would receive 10 weeks of vacation and although they took vacations each summer, they would look forward to traveling during those special times. Raymond enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes and beautiful flowers.
Raymond was born in 1927 to Amos Thompson and Lena Osborne Thompson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years: Lillian Farthing Thompson.
Survivors include: 1 Daughter: Sheila Callen and husband Steve of Madisonville, Ky; 1 Son: Gary Thompson of Henderson, Ky; 4 Grandchildren: Brennon Thompson and wife Gina of Fairfax, Va., Amy Lopez of Evansville, In., Chris Callen and wife April of Henderson, Ky., Rebecca Allen and husband James of Coventry, England; 5 Great-Grandchildren: Nolan, Bethanie, Hayden, Zoe and Mitchell.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Henderson Church of Christ with Gary Puryear officiating.
