MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/29/13) – The following is your daily update of activity by the Madisonville Fire Department (MFD) over the weekend.
On April 26, at 10:18 PM, MFD received an alarm from Central Dispatch for a transformer on fire at 1500 Pride Avenue, Hillside Villa. Upon arrival fire crew was met with a representative from the utility department. The electricity was shut-off going to the utility pole and a 50' section of 1 3/4" hose was deployed to cool the transformer. The CO2 extinguisher from engine 3 was used by the utility department to extinguish the burning oil within the transformer. The scene was turned over to the utility department and no further action was taken. All units returned to the stations.
Also on April 26, at approximately 12:10 PM, MFD received a call via telephone for a smoking dumpster behind 1055 North Main St. Brother's BBQ. Caller advised that there had been a fire in the dumpster, and that the employees had extinguished it, but the contents of the dumpster were still smoking. Arriving on scene, fire crew found the dumpster and observed a small amount of smoke showing from the dumpster. Fire crew deployed a 200 foot booster line and thoroughly soaked the contents of the dumpster. A 6 foot pike pole was also used to overhaul the contents. After all smoking had stopped, the scene was deemed safe and the fire unit returned to quarters.
On April 26, at approximately 12:57 PM, MFD received an alarm from Central Dispatch for an illegal burn near the intersection of North Kentucky and East Noel Ave. Upon arrival Engine-17 located the fire at 250 North Kentucky Ave. The property owner was burning debris inside a homemade fire pit, which was located very close to a structure. Fire officials met with the property owner and advised him that he could not burn trash regardless of the type of container. Also any burning inside the city would require a permit issued from the Fire Department. The property owner then complied with the request to extinguish the fire. All fire units cleared the scene and returned to quarters.
On April 26, at approximately 6:03 PM, MFD an alarm from Central Dispatch for a fire alarm activation at 219 East Broadway. Upon arrival fire crews found a resident of the apartment complex standing at the main entrance of the structure. After entering the building it was determined that cooking food in the kitchen area had activated a fire alarm heat sensor. The property owner was contacted via public service by the resident and was told that the fire alarm needed to be reset using the correct codes. Without the proper alarm code fire crews were unable to reset the fire alarm to normal operation. The owner of the building was returning from an out of town trip and would be several hours before the alarm could be properly reset. Occupants of the building were advised to contact the Fire Department upon completing the fire alarm reset operation. All units cleared the scene and returned to quarters.
On Saturday, April 27, MFD received an alarm from Central Dispatch for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of E. Center St. and Scott St. with air bag deployment. Upon arrival fire crew found a two-vehicle accident with an occupant still sitting inside one of the vehicles. Engine-17crew assessed the patient that was sitting inside of the vehicle prior to Medical Center Ambulance Service (M.C.A.S.) arrival. Occupant of the other vehicle was out of vehicle and walking around and advised he was uninjured. M.C.A.S. arrived on scene and assumed patient care. Engine-17 crew disconnected the battery from one of the vehicles and applied oil adsorbent to fluids on the roadway surface. The
Madisonville Light Department was requested to the scene by Battalion-1 due to a crosswalk light pole being struck and knocked down by one of the vehicles with exposed wires lying in the grass area. Fire crew remained on scene until tow service arrived and removed vehicle from roadway, the other vehicle was driven from the scene by its occupant. Madisonville Police Department advised that they would remain on scene until the Light Department arrived. Scene was turned over to Madisonville Police Department units. No further action was taken, all units returned to service.
On Sunday, April 28, MFD received a phone call from station #1 to check on a small outdoor fire at 361 Thompson Ave. When crew arrived on scene we found several people sitting around a table with an approved burn pit in the center of it. The material being burned and the area where the burn pit was located was legal. No further action was needed and crew R.T.S.
