Highway 41 Yard Sale this Weekend

highway41 yardsale 300KENTUCKY (6/27/13) – Antiques, collectibles and more await bargain hunters during the annual Highway 41 Yard Sale, June 28 - 29. Numerous sales will be set up along the 150 miles of U.S. 41 that stretches across western Kentucky.

Cities along the sale route include Henderson, Anthoston, Robards, Sebree, Slaughters, Hanson, Madisonville, Earlington, Mortons Gap, Nortonville, Empire, Crofton, Kelly, Hopkinsville, Pembroke, Trenton and Guthrie. The Highway 41-A route from Henderson to Madisonville is also part of the event, and includes the cities of Cairo, Poole, Dixon, Providence, Nebo, and Manitou. A map of the route is available at www.Highway41YardSale.com.

Hundreds of local individuals, businesses, and groups are expected to participate, setting up yard sales and craft booths on their properties along the highway. This unique event allows visitors from Kentucky and surrounding states to enjoy an exciting shopping experience while taking in the distinctive flavor of the region’s unique restaurants, shops, and southern hospitality. The sale will also provide an excellent opportunity for organizations and clubs to hold fundraising events. Tricia Noel, Executive Director of Hopkins County Tourist & Convention Commission said, “Last year proved to be a very successful event with visitors coming from places such as Louisville and Elizabethtown to shop the sale. We have already had inquiries from folks as far away as Michigan about coming to visit during the sale.”

There is no cost for property owners along Highway 41 and Highway 41-A to participate -- all they have to do is set up a sale. Property owners may wish to offer use of their property to someone wishing to hold a yard sale; if so, the property owner decides whether to charge a fee for the use of their property. A limited number of yard sale signs are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Hopkins County Visitor Center, 15 E. Center St., Madisonville. Property owners who want to offer use of their property to those interested in holding sales may call 270-821-4171 to have their names added to a list of available locations.

Persons or groups interested in selling food along the route that runs through Hopkins County should contact the county Health Department’s Environmental Health Office at 270-821-5242, extension 263, for information on preparation and serving guides, permits and fees.
