4sunsetHENDERSON, Ky. - Harold (Louie) Townsend, age 79, of Cairo, KY, passed away at 11:16pm, Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

Louie loved bowling, fishing, camping, and was a big UK fan. He raised his own garden and shared its plenty with family and friends. A hardworking man, Louie stared his work career at Chrysler Corporation in Evansville. He managed Rex Dry Cleaning from 1956-1972. After that, he began a 13 year long career with the Henderson County School District working as a custodian at South Heights Elementary School. He was first and foremost a family man; loving his wife and kids and treating nieces and nephews like they were his own.

Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents, Ishmael Townsend and Mary Helen Reinhart, his brother, William "Sonny" Townsend in 1976, his sister, Mary Ruth Duckworth in 2013 and a Great Granddaughter, Kristen Cates in 2003.

Survivors include: Loving wife of 57 years: Annie Townsend Cairo, KY; 2 Daughters: Pam Cates and husband Dale Eddyville, KY, Cindy Roybal and husband Mike Henderson, KY; 2 Sisters: Martha Halterman and husband John Henderson, KY, Donna Pohl Bluff City, KY; 1 Sister In Law: Maggie Townsend Henderson, KY; 4 Grandchildren: Randy Cates and wife Mary, Lana Elizabeth Cates, Amanda Jackson and husband Jamie, and Aaron Roybal; 5 Great Grandchildren: Madison, Hailey & Benjamin Cates and Madelyn & Addison Jobe; Nieces and Nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to Harold "Louie" Townsend's Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00pm, Sunday, July 7 and again on Monday starting at 11:00am at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Dan Book officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Cairo Volunteer Fire Department.
