Consumer Chronicle: Lexington Cools Down with Frozen Yogurt

yogurt 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (7/19/13) – Swimming pools, cold beverages and air conditioners on full blast are just some of the ways Lexingtonians are beating the heat this summer. However, there is a sweeter way to keep cool during the heat wave: frozen yogurt.

Dessert-lovers are taking full advantage of the hot weather to indulge and sales are booming, according to Chad Green, an employee of I Can't Believe It's Yogurt on Nicholasville Road. He said when it comes to Fro-Yo, the low-fat peanut butter is hard to keep in stock and the chocolate comes in at a close second. He added when it comes to their yogurt, people aren't too picky.

“You can always just go to your basic,” he said. “If you can't figure it out, just go chocolate and vanilla swirl and you'll be happy.”

If frozen yogurt isn't your thing, there are a multitude of different ice cream flavors to choose from as well.

“All the kids love superman. The cookie dough and birthday cake sells real fast,” said Green. “A lot of the older people like butter pecan. They really all sell very well.”

Prices for yogurt at the shop won’t overheat your wallet. They range from $1.50 for a kid’s cup, $2.50 for a small, $3.00 for a medium and $3.50 for a large. I Can't Believe It's Yogurt is located in the Zandale Shopping Center at 2220 Nicholasville Road.

On the other side of street is another frozen yogurt shop. Fro-Jo's Self Serve Frozen Yogurt and Coffee sits just past the Lexington Green on 192 Lexington Green Circle. Unlike I Can't Believe It's Yogurt, this Fro-Yo joint is completely self-serve, meaning you have control of every aspect of your cup. But, if you're feeling too hot to get out of your car, they'll be happy to make it for you at the drive-thru window.

An employee at Fro-Jo's said the biggest seller at the store is birthday cake “by far.” Prices at the shop are also very reasonable, sitting at $0.45 cents an ounce for self-serve. At the drive-thru a small cup of Fro-Jo will set you back $2.39 and a large will cost you $4.50.

If summertime activities have got you drained, don't forget to rejuvenate with some coffee. Fro-Jo's sells black coffee for $1.59

So, if you're looking for a summertime treat that melts in your mouth, but doesn't break the bank, there are two prime opportunities to score a cup of Fro-Yo right on Nicholasville road. Be sure to check these places out before you melt!
