HENDERSON, Ky. - G. Givens Dixon passed away Monday, July 29th, after 91 years, leaving a legacy of family, friends, and community service.
A life-long resident of Henderson, Mr. Dixon came through his boyhood during the Great Depression, afterward attending the University of Ky where he achieved a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. During WWII, he was recruited to join the Signal Corps where he was assigned to decode enemy messages. Following the war, Dixon returned to Henderson and the family appliance business. Later, he began building and remodeling houses and was instrumental in growing the local Habitat for Humanity. As a tribute the group created the "Givens" Award to recognize an outstanding volunteer. Mr. Dixon was a Christian, active in evangelism and his local congregation of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
He is preceded in death by his father George Givens Dixon; and then his mother and step-father, Margaret and David Hart; and one brother, John Harrison Dixon.
Givens Dixon is survived by his wife Marilyn; two daughters, Vanessa Burka and Stephanie Musgrove; one son Brad Dixon; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2 pm.
