Junior Leadership Program is Under Way

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/16/13) - The annual Junior Leadership program is under way in Hopkins County Schools.

Participants in the six-session interactive program include a 5th-grader from each elementary school, an 8th-grader from each middle school, and an 11th- and 12th-grader from each high school.

This year’s participants include Trevor Rodgers, Earlington; Abby Harrison, Grapevine; Mallory Hunt, Hanson; Sean Radford, Jesse Stuart; Logan Rainwater, Pride; Caroline Rodgers, Southside; Zach Tow, West Broadway; Korbin Carter, West Hopkins; Eryca Bowman, Browning Springs; Kendall Baldwin, James Madison; Addison Lander, South Hopkins; Carrie Towe, West Hopkins; Bo Hunter Smith and Tiffany NIckelson, Hopkins County Central; and Victoria Walker and Julia Borders, Madisonville North Hopkins.

Each school has its own criteria for selection of their school ambassador to participate in Junior Leadership.

The six sessions consist of the kick-off at the 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs; Architecture/Historical Day taught by Nancy Kelley, Hopkins County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Science; City/County Government Day; Healthcare and Communications led by Carol Phebus, Baptist Health/West Area Health Education Center; Business/Industry Day led by Michael Hunt, president/CEO Sacramento Deposit Bank; and Career Preparation and Graduation.

This program is sponsored by Hopkins County Schools. It is led by a community committee whose members include Michael Hunt, President/CEO Sacramento Deposit Bank; Carol Phebus, Baptist Health West Areal Health Education Center; Kellie Arnold, Hopkins County Extension Agent for 4-H; Jeremy Teal, Hopkins County Extension Agent for 4-H; Lindsay Arnett, Hopkins County Schools Elementary Gifted and Talented Resource; and Mary Chandler, Hopkins County Schools.
