UK Basketball 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (12/2/13) — The Wildcats passed their biggest test since losing to Michigan State as they locked down another win for the season against Providence last night.

“I didn’t look up at the score board for the first 12 minutes,” Coach Calipari said. “I can’t worry about winning or losing right now, I am just trying to focus on these guys playing well the right way.”

Kentucky shot at 64.3 percent while James Young led the Cats with 18 points and Aaron Harrison added 15.

“I was pleased over all,” Calipari said. “We made a step up today, it was a good step, and we needed it.”

According to Calipari, the way the game ended couldn’t have been better.

“I loved it. We grounded out like a team that has done it for two years. I was so proud of them and how they finished those last four minutes,” he said. “We have a chance.”

Gearing up toward their next game against Baylor on Friday, the 7-1 Wildcats will practice the fundamentals first.

“I’m still learning about this team and figuring them out,” said Calipari. “I have them defending themselves with their hands behind their back, like some would learn in middle school basketball camps. We are where we are right now — good news is they are eager to learn and play.”

Calipari believes the greatest thing for him is that it took 20 years to find a job like the one he has at Kentucky.

“Our fans are crazy, but they don’t expect us to win every game and every national championship,” he said. “They want us to hunt, and we are. We have the greatest fans.”

The Wildcats will take on Baylor at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington Texas this Friday at 10 p.m.
