Inmate Care Moving to Local Hospital Management

mc det 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (12/29/13) ― The Muhlenberg Fiscal Court approved a proposal by Muhlenberg Detention Center Jailer Mark Curry to switch healthcare services provided for inmates.

Curry and Judge-Executive Rick Newman told Surfky News Friday that Advanced Inmate Medical Management will be replaced by Muhlenberg Community Hospital effective Feb. 1.

“It is official,” Newman said. “The contract has been signed with MCH.”

Curry told SurfKY News the switch had nothing to do with dissatisfaction with AIMM.

“I had been told by Carroll County’s jailer that he had great results in using their community hospital for inmate healthcare,” said Curry. “Since then, I had researched the idea and talked to officials at MCH, as well as Judge-Executive Newman. AIMM is the second largest healthcare provider for inmates in Kentucky, with their headquarters in Peoria, Ill. We had no problems with their service, but this just makes more sense as far as getting things done more easily.”

The move is not only is more convenient but also helps the local economy, said Curry.

“We will keep the same two nurses we have had, along with the same doctor,” he said. “But this will keep the money in Muhlenberg County. We’ll gain 10 hours of nursing services per week. Plus lab work and x-rays will be much easier to get done. It all boils down to better rates and easier access.”
