New Chamber Officers Sworn In

GREENVILLE, Ky. (1/10/14) — The Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce inducted its new president during its first meeting of the new year Thursday, Jan. 9.

New president Chris Dennis, vice president of First Security Bank, also helped the chamber bid past president Gary Jones a fond farewell during the noon luncheon at Greenville First United Methodist Church.

Dennis presented a plague of appreciation to Jones for his hard work during the past year.

Dennis was then sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Brian Wiggins, as were Sean Mooningham - first vice president; Susan Wells, second vice president; Daniel Patton - treasurer; and, directors Dan Yonts, David Rhodes, Tammy Piper, Delilah Bush, Vicki Yonts, Gary Jones - past president, Marla Pogue Devine, Greg Sparks, Judge-Executive Rick Newman and Ken Robinson.

New chamber members included Country Roads Auto Sales and Powersports located at 615 Greene Street in Greenville.

Jones addressed the gathering regarding his new position with the Muhlenberg Alliance for Progress. Jones said that for Muhlenberg County to gain new employers and new jobs becoming a Certified Work Ready Community is key.

"Right now, the county is considered a Certified Work Ready Community in Progress," Jones said. "The state set this program up to assure businesses a local workforce with the talents and skills necessary to handle current jobs. Each company has various types of jobs they desire, for now and for the future."

Jones said that in his few short months with MAP he has learned much of what companies are looking for.

"Muhlenberg County needs to develop three main things before large companies consider us for their business location. I am proud to say our county is looking good in those three areas," Jones said.

Jones went on to explain the three top criteria for choosing Muhlenberg County for new business.

"No. 1 is," Jones said, “do you have available land? This is something we have plenty of with two fine industrial parks. No. 2 is, do you have convenient transportation for getting our product where it needs to go quickly? Again, we are in very good shape, with parkways and interstates close by, and easy access. The No. 3 item businesses are looking for is a qualified work force. We have had numerous meetings about this, and the state has noted that our plan mapped out to achieve this goal is phenomenal. In fact, it is now being used as an example for other counties, because it is concise, to the point, and when implemented, will give Muhlenberg County a real boost in the area of attracting new industry."
