Mary Louise Driskill Lacer, 87, Henderson, Ky.

HENDERSON, Ky. (4/1/14) — Mary Louise Driskill Lacer, 87, of Henderson, Ky., passed away 2:36 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Redbanks Nursing Home, Henderson, Ky.

She was born and raised out in the country in Reed, Ky. Her dad was a farmer and mother was a homemaker, she had six siblings. She told stories of having to walk across the bridge to get to the old Spottsville School by the river. In 1943 she met and married the love of her life Elden, they too had a large family, having 7 children together. She was very talented in sewing, known for being able to take an old piece of clothing and make it new again. Louise enjoyed gardening and canning food, although her children joke they are the ones who did all the hard work. Louise worked as a certified Medical Assistant at Redbanks for over 20 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in Reed, Ky. The most important thing in Louise’s life had always been her family.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband Robert Elden Lacer, two grandsons Jeremy Smithhart and Robert Jason Varble, parents Joe Driskill and Mary Driskill Wiley, brothers Joe, Jude, Pete and Wallace Driskill and sister Francis Lee Haire.

Survivors include three sons, Robert “Buck” Lacer and wife Vickie of Spottsville, Ky., Darrell Lacer and wife Yvette of Henderson, Ky. and Elden Dwayne Lacer and wife Rana of Las Vegas, Nev., four daughters, Peggy Christison and husband Elbridge of Grapevine, Texas, Judy Rae Varble of Reed, Ky., Wendy Sherman and husband Tom of Henderson, Ky. and Darlene Smithhart and husband Butch of Henderson, Ky., one sister, Sue Bugg of Spottsville, Ky., eighteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, twenty three great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to Louise’s Life Celebration from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and again Wednesday starting 9:00 a.m. until service time at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, Ky. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at the funeral home with the Pastor Don Haire officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Henderson County, Ky.
