Information provided by Sheriff Curtis McGehee

GREENVILLE, Ky. (6/23/14) –  Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Deputy Alex Piper said information from people in the community led to the 48 warrants issued for the arrests that took place Monday, June 23 in Muhlenberg County.

“People have been using the sheriff's website to give tips concerning drug abuse in addition the department has received quite a few tips from Hotspot cards,” said Piper, public information officer for the department. “A Hotspot card is a card that can be filled out and allows a person to contact the sheriff's department anonymously.  These cards are given out at crime scenes, public functions, and are available at the sheriff's office."

The investigations were months in the making and extended beyond Muhlenberg County.  The county and city police departments worked with the Pennyrile Narcotic Task Force to chase down leads and obtain warrants.  There were 15 officers involved in carrying out the arrest warrants with lead officers Muhlenberg County Sheriff Detective Wade Griggs and Muhlenberg County Sheriff Detective Troy Gibson.

"The ultimate goal of operations like this is to send a message that all the police agencies that work in the county are committed to making Muhlenberg County a good place to live and work,” said Piper. “A lot of people are going to be on pins and needles tonight and tomorrow.  They do not know if they have sold drugs to a confidential informant,  a undercover police officer, or if they have simply been turned in by a member of the community.  The message to the criminals is, ‘when you commit these crimes you are going to get caught.’"
